Zona da Mata is a region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, located in the southeastern part of the state, along the border of the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. The region has many hills and elevations range from 100 to 1,900 meters. The main river is the Paraíba do Sul.

Because of its location, it produces some of the best coffee in the regi- on; it took first place in the annual Brazilian Quality Coffee for Espresso Awards in 2007. Zona da Mata was the richest region of Minas Gerais from the 1850s to 1930s thanks to coffee and milk production.

Gilson has been a coffee producer since 1988. Santa Catarina Farm was inheri- ted by by his father and throughout the years he has been investing in machinery and equipment to benefit and re-benefit his own coffee. His farm employs 10 wor- kers who live around the region. The planting and harvesting process is done 100% manually and following technical guidelines.
